Update on The Girls #15 – Adios, 2011

Well, we’ve come to the end of 2011. As we say every year, where did the time go?

I’ll close with one more update on The Girls, but rest assured that more will follow in 2011. I’ve enjoyed blogging and I hope that others have found some value in my remarks.

C – is starting to talk! This is big news, but we have started to notice that she can say “mama,” “dada,” and “ah-oh” (when things go wrong). Our little girl is growing up.

She’s fighting sleep every time we try to put her down. On the way out to the beach the other day, we had her car seat turned around so that she could face the front. She refused to go to sleep so that she could see everything. Since we’ve gotten to the beach, she’s been trying to catch up on her rest.

At one year, she loves to take her bottle and – at times – to hold the bottle. But she shows little interest in “graduating” to a sippy cup. She is staring to eat some solids – puffs and bananas are favorites. She can start switching to cow’s milk next week, as long as her pediatrician says that it is OK.

E – and her Dad went for a walk along the beach this morning. She gets “antsy” inside and wants to go out and see things. There are lots of “snowbirds” at Orange Beach now. (A snowbird is a person – usually from the upper Midwest – who comes down to spend the cold months on the Gulf Coast). She got lots of comments from the snowbirds and I coaxed her to say “hello” to some of them.

We’re trying to break her from using her sippy cup. She is attached to one that is designed for six-month-olds and it has not been easy. Still, she is now doing better with the new cups and we are hopeful that she is “turning the corner” on making this change.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!! – M.M.M.

About mobilemojoman

I have been a Mobile resident for about a decade. Working as a college professor keeps me off the streets and pays the bills. I am married to a woman (the MojoWoman) who is a much better person than I am and we have two beautiful girls who keep us both jumping. My interests are varied - food & drink, sports, politics, exercise, books, travel, Mardi Gras, and all of life's rich pageant. In the future, I'd like to learn more about sailing, photography, Cajun/Creole cooking, making beer and wine, and writing.
