Scenes from Orange Beach, Alabama – Summer 2012 – #1 – The Start of the Summer Season

We’re lucky enough to spend some time at the beach this summer. A lot of people come out here to take their vacations and “let their hair down” for a week or so. I thought that it would be fun to report on some of the things that we see and hear.

Here are a couple of “early returns” –

#1 – we were on the balcony and heard some yelling. A guy in the pool had just missed being harpooned when a woman’s beach umbrella fell (or was thrown) off her balcony. She had to do some profuse apologizing.

#2 – our place has been in a rental program. We are doing some painting to spruce it up. (OK, my wife is doing the painting; I’m drinking beer, listening to Jimmy Buffett, and pontificating). When she lifted one of the air vents out to paint, she found that someone had stuffed a can in the air duct. Again, people come here to let their hair down, but when does this seem like a good idea?

The “season” really gets rolling this weekend with the Hangout music festival. We’ll see what stories the summer brings.

About mobilemojoman

I have been a Mobile resident for about a decade. Working as a college professor keeps me off the streets and pays the bills. I am married to a woman (the MojoWoman) who is a much better person than I am and we have two beautiful girls who keep us both jumping. My interests are varied - food & drink, sports, politics, exercise, books, travel, Mardi Gras, and all of life's rich pageant. In the future, I'd like to learn more about sailing, photography, Cajun/Creole cooking, making beer and wine, and writing.
