Scenes from Orange Beach, Alabama – Summer 2012 – #2 – Softball & Unsuccessful Pick-Up Artists

The condos are filled with college softball players. The NAIA championships are being held in Orange Beach for the 2nd straight year & there are 32 teams in town. Just in our complex we have Oregon Tech (the defending champs), Oklahoma City University, Brenau University, Auburn-Montgomery, & Central Baptist University. There are some other teams here, but their buses don’t have signs on them.

Wednesday, we sat on the beach for a long time and watched the passing parade.
Upon arrival at Orange Beach, the softballers did what anyone should do – head straight for the water. Being jockettes, the women immediately started playing games in the water – passing around a little football. Others were more my speed – just lying in the sun & vegging.

To our left, there were four college-age guys passing a football. They kept slowly moving down the beach, so that they were right by two college-age women who were near us. The bravest guy approached the women and used the line “Are you a Chi Omega?” – to the woman wearing a Chi O shirt. The women were polite, but they weren’t impressed with the guys. One woman said that she was from Clemson and the other said that she goes to Southern Mississippi. The guys claimed to be from Clemson but – again – it didn’t seem to get them anywhere.

About mobilemojoman

I have been a Mobile resident for about a decade. Working as a college professor keeps me off the streets and pays the bills. I am married to a woman (the MojoWoman) who is a much better person than I am and we have two beautiful girls who keep us both jumping. My interests are varied - food & drink, sports, politics, exercise, books, travel, Mardi Gras, and all of life's rich pageant. In the future, I'd like to learn more about sailing, photography, Cajun/Creole cooking, making beer and wine, and writing.
