What I’m Reading – Wednesday, 22 June 2016. – More Killers in the Family by Robert L. Snow & The Atlantic on the G.O.P.

The Atlantic’s July/August issue arrived in the mail Wednesday. It has an article on the demographic death spiral of the Republican Party. Author Peter Beinart suggests that what has happened to the G.O.P. In California (opposition to Latino immigration followed by declining electoral results) may happen to the GOP nationwide.

My reaction is that Beinart is correct, it might happen. If 2016’s politics have taught us one thing, it should be that a lot can happen that the experts fail to predict. I well remember when the Democratic Party lost five of six presidential elections (from 1968 to 1988) and many people commented on its string of losses.

The article’s good food for thought. It is here –

I continued to read Killers in the Family by Robert L. Snow. I was a bit disappointed in what I read Wednesday (pages 78-144). Snow gets into the trials and – as with so many true-crime books – things start to bog down.

About mobilemojoman

I have been a Mobile resident for about a decade. Working as a college professor keeps me off the streets and pays the bills. I am married to a woman (the MojoWoman) who is a much better person than I am and we have two beautiful girls who keep us both jumping. My interests are varied - food & drink, sports, politics, exercise, books, travel, Mardi Gras, and all of life's rich pageant. In the future, I'd like to learn more about sailing, photography, Cajun/Creole cooking, making beer and wine, and writing.
